Edmonton police has opened an investigation into the “suspicious death” of an infant found in the parking lot of a city shopping centre.
The homicide unit has taken over the investigation and an autopsy is scheduled for Dec. 12, police said.
Police didn’t release any details about potential suspects or the identity of the child, but said investigators “do not believe the death is connected to any area businesses at this time.”
Police also didn’t comment on the circumstances of the infant’s death or say if the baby had been abandoned.
The Epoch Times contacted Edmonton police for comment on the case but did not receive a response prior to publication.

The authorities are appealing to the public for information about the infant’s death. Drivers with active dash camera footage who were in the area between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Dec. 7 are asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
An autopsy determined the baby had died of natural causes and Victoria police said it was believed the child was a newborn and the mother may have given birth in the area.
