An Australian aid worker has reportedly been killed in Gaza.
At least five employees from the World Central Kitchen (WCK) non-governmental organisation were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza, the Gaza government media office said on Monday.
As well as the Australian, those killed in the incident in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah included citizens of Poland and Britain, as well as one Palestinian, a spokesman for the media office said.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military or the WCK.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has been contacted for comment.

The WCK delivers food relief and prepared meals for people in need. It said last month it had served more than 42 million meals in Gaza over 175 days.

Chef Jose Andres started the WCK in 2010 by sending cooks and food to Haiti after an earthquake. The organisation has since delivered food for communities hit by natural disasters, refugees at the US border, healthcare workers during the COVID pandemic and people in conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
BBC journalist Rushdi Abualouf reported that a medical source at Gaza’s Al Aqsa hospital told the British media outlet that the bodies of four people wearing bullet-proof vests bearing the logo of the Central American Kitchen arrived at the hospital after a car they were travelling in was hit by an air strike.
Journalists in Gaza have also posted pictures of three passports, Australian, British and Polish, with blood on them.
This is a developing story and this article will be updated.
