A lot of the slowness is due to caution on the Russian side because of negative experiences of how badly it can go when you rush. This makes Ukraine’s collapse look less dramatic than it is. Ukraine may be completely dependent at this point on its mere reputation for defense, to keep Russia from moving too quickly.

When russia completes all goals of the smo and are happy with how much land they have liberated they will still need a massive exclusion zone. They will need to take odesa no matter what or nato will a port right next to Russian territory. Odesa must be the main target in the smo and I know russia isn’t even fighting for it now but think about the consequences of nato and russia having a port literally under one mile from each other. That will never work.
